CJJA Kids FAQ

Does my child need any experience to start?

Not at all. Most of our students are brand new to Jiu-Jitsu when they first walk in. We love teaching beginners and making them feel at home.

What age can kids start Jiu-Jitsu?

Kids start at age 4 in Lil' Pups (ages 4-6). Older kids join the Bulldogs (ages 7-12). Not sure if your child is ready? Bring them in for two free classes and see how they do.

What should my child wear for their first class?

Just comfy gym clothes. T-shirt and shorts or leggings are perfect. No special gear needed for the first visit.

Do I need to buy a uniform right away?

No. Try two free classes first, see if your child likes it, and then we'll explain uniforms (called a "Gi") and gear options, no pressure.

How do I tie my child's belt for Gi Jiu-Jitsu?

It's quick and easy. Any coach will show you and your child how, before or after class, and you'll have it down in no time. Just ask.

Can I watch my child's class?

Absolutely. You're welcome to stay, watch, and ask questions. We want parents to feel comfortable and see how we run things. We also have a comfortable viewing room and a TV screen so you can watch from the lobby.

My child is shy, high-energy, or has never tried a sport. Is this still a fit?

Yes. We've worked with every type of kid: quiet, wild, athletic, or brand new to sports. Our coaches know how to help kids feel included and have a great time.

How much are kids Jiu-Jitsu classes in Charlotte?

Lil' Pups (ages 4-6) is $125 per month for twice weekly training. Bulldogs (ages 7-12) is $125 per month for two days a week, or $150 per month for unlimited training. Memberships renew monthly and you can cancel with an email. Your child's first two classes are free.

How do I sign my child up?

Your first two classes are free. Just fill out our trial waiver, check our class schedule, or send us an email. Show up, and we'll walk you through it step by step. You can also read what to expect on your first visit.
